I thought we could do something like a questionnaire here. Is it worth all the time and effort? Would you still join medical school if you havent done that yet?

Sometimes when I am tired of studying..... I swear not to ever promote this field.... never to encourage any one to get into medical school... But when I see people raise their eyebrows.. when they see "Dr" in front of my name... when I am addressed as "Dr".... I love it.... people think I am very intelligent.... "Medical school is like a PUBLIC TOILET, people outside are dying to get in..... and people inside cant wait to get out"!!!!!!

It is when you like to be a doctor, and you take the bad with the good, like everything else in life.

We all get one life, one oportunity to live, whether we live telling us that we did great for ourselves or whether we crib that so much could have been done depends what is at your disposal,we as doctors get every single opportunity to prove to ourselves and world around that we lived usefully, will any other profession give you such opportunities??ofcourse in return we give is tremendous hardwork but our sacrifice is worth it. A genuine thanks, a shine of satisfaction and relief that we get to see in patients eyes after our work is indeed matchless and makes my whole world actually. so i dont regret even a bit, even if i get 10 lives, i'll keep choosing being a doc i may sound fanatic but this works for me the way nothing else does.

Even I enjoy being a doctor...... there is nothing else that I could possibly do.... I love the night shifts..... the hard work..... The need to be right every time.... Evrything..... but... I still believe in the 'public toilet" thing...

come on.. being a doc is not such a great deal... it is just like other jobs... I got into this stupid thing because I was curious about the human body... well.. I am satisfied with my basic knowledge of the human body now.. from now on, I'll have to figure it out how to improve the treatments and apply some usefull treatments... we aint more intelligent that others.. come on.. if you like that it is just for your own ego..

With all its uncertainties, with all those stressful nights before exams and during emergency duties, with all the pain of sitting at home and studying for the Steps and only hoping for the best, if I were to do it again, I will. It gives me a reason to live for.

Hi, folks I don't know how many docs quited medicine and joined totally another profession and then rejoined medicine, but I am the one who did that. 7/8 years back when I gratuated, I left this profession just because my performance throughout med school years remained below average, hardly used to pass. Main reason was I could not maintain the same passion by which I excelled Pre-med, with passage of time I was getting more and more alienated with med profession, although I always showed tenderness, and care to patients during ward duties. I After when I left medicine, I worked very hard for more than a year and excelled in a competetive exam in my country and I was among those 25 lucky people who were selected in whole country. I got a very imp administrative post in Govt sector. This job is considered very prestigeous in my country. All kind of facilities are attached with this, chauffer driven cars, big house, servants, armed gaurds etc. I was very happy that I got rid of a very difficult profession like medicine. With passage of time I realized that I cann't be as brutal and harsh as GOVT wanted me to be. Because during some events like big people protests, I had to order police force to crack them down. I started really feeling upset and sad whenever I did that. I could not snub my inner humane person. So after serving for arround 3 years I was abled to get 5 years leave to rejoin medicine for which I was actually made off. My seniors were happy with me and they always said to me that I have to be less humane if I want to be the part brutal Govt machinary. Anyway I rejoined medicine and started working in a teaching (University) hospital, I worked in ER , ICU and in very busy wards , did every 3rd day night for about 2 years, but I never wavered. My professor ( head) was so much happy about my working that he persuaded me to go for higher training. I left my country and I came here. After 6/7 years of gap, I started preparing steps and step-1 I passe with good score and step-2 ck I just have given. The job I left , people in my country feel honoured to be in that kind of job but now I have no regrets. I feel now that medicine is my passion and it is the profession for which I am made for because I want to remain humane and tenderhearted person. Though I am passing through a very tough time but my conscious is clear and I am contented and satisfied. Now I am in pursuit of profession which is actually and really dear to my heart, inspite of all its hardwork . drnaik I like ur "public toilet " thingi

Yes,when u see a pt in LVF feeling hes gonna die n u simply give lasix and viloa hes able to breathe the taken for granted O2.......medicine does make a huge difference in people lives ,u know it when u work in ER and then in wards, even in OPDs. ITS NOT WHAT WE GET,BUT WHAT WE BECOME......i think its by Jim Rohn
