hey, my photo looks like a mug shot, and i realized later I should probably have gotten it professionally done...

Did most people use professional photos and do the PD's view this before they invite you to the interview???

Some people say photos can only be viewed after the IV invite...what is your opinion on this...

Residency programs are hiring professionals right!!!, but if you have already sent your pic donot worry as long as it looks decent you will be fine.

As long as you don't look like a bank robber or cut someone out of the picture (which won't hurt you, but I will chuckle at it), you should be okay.

as far as i know no! they only check ur photo after thy have grated u with an IV...
nod

no one is gonna hire u because ur looks so don't worry.

Still if it's only possible for them to view the pic after deciding to give IV --> people designing ERAS know pics matter. It is impossible not to get a little biased by someone's appearance, that's human, though not politically correct but totally human.cool

They are used to recognize the candidate during the IV day and also to remember the candidate when making a rank list...

i went to a PC and asked her if she had recieved my transcript and other documents through ERAS....she asked my last name and saw my transcipt said that i had good scores and i looked good too..i leaned over and saw my pic on her computer...sticking out tongue

so i think they can see pic before sending ivs.

this seems to close the argument, they can see the pics before and also the photo does matter...

I went through this last year, yes, we can see the picture immediately. It's no big deal. We used to see the pictures when persons mailed in their applications.

"Should you be selected for an interview by a program, the program will use your photograph to identify you at the interview and as a memory aid when creating a rank order list."-

ECFMG web site..

bbb says the photo can be seen immediately...

does this mean ECFMG is basically lying to us...

If I knew it could be seen immediately, I would have definately got it professionally done, I just sent some generic photo cause I figured they could only see it later...

  #14

ECFMG should state that these photos can be viewed before interviews are given out...instead of deceiving the applicant into thinking they can only be seen once IV's are assigned...

If they can be seen before, obviously the applicant will take every step to send the best and most professional photo possible instead of sending a generic passport photo....

Why? Like I said, when applications were mailed to me, I saw a photo immediately. Trust me, we don't look at the photos judging looks - there are many, many more important parts of your application. It's not a big deal. A generic passport photo works just fine.

bbb,

it's something ECFMG should be straight forward about, they say it can only be seen after sending out the invite, which isn't true....if we knew it can be seen from the beginning, we would get it professionally done and not send in some generic passport photo...

As far as it making a difference, that is up for interpretation, some will say it matters, some will say it doesn't, but it is something ECFMG should be straight forward about....

You know at some point that your photo is going to be seen. Wouldn't you make it the best possible photo? That should be the point.

very valid point, thats why i didnt take a chance, i also thought in the begining that ECFMG is saying it'll be only visible with MSPE in nov., so .....but then thought as bbb said, eventually has to be revealed, why not send your best.nod

  #19

Well, i didnt get it done professionally, 'cos even if I trick them into inviting me for an IV 'cos of my good looks, they'd see the real thing on the IV day anyways grin
