Dear BBB,

How long can an applicant take to reply to the interview invitation e-mail and schedule the interview date? Would it be a bad idea if I don't respond to the email for about 5 to 7 days? or should I tell them that I need some time before I give you possible date for me?

Thanks.

Respond ASAP, you will have choice of dates, some programes (not all...) invite about 10% more than their interview slots would fit, so if you call late then all slots might have already been booked, ideally if you have applied allover the place then draw up a plan to interview in the programes around certain region during one particular time.

Like southwest region of USA during early november, central late november etc...., and schedule your inteview dlots during those periods for one particular area, that way you could save some money during the interviews for you will not need to be travelling outside the area during that time.

I also suggest that you schedule the interviews for those programes which you are most likely to rank higher in the middle of interview season, because by that time you would have had enough interview experiences.... not to get anxious during the interviews and would have gotten more confident with your answers.

This only my opinion, howevevr everybody has his/her own plan and if it workd for you then stick to it.

Goodluck.

Ditto - as soon as you can. If you wait you risk losing the day that you really want.

most if not all programs will change your iv date if u request it and vise versa..some times they will ask u to come-in earlier or later..but beware of the programs that offer prematch, later u wait..more positions will be filled. last yr i think it was wilson memorial had 10 or 12 seats and they went to match day with only 2 left.

Programes are being very smart nowadays, you probably will not know how many positions they are going into match with until the last day of the quota submission deadline, even though most programes are very accomodative for the interviewees in part becasue they have called you because they potentially would like to hire you in near future, many of them are not that flexible due to many reasons, including the availibility of slots etc....,, in general interviews during the early part of the season tend to be well attended but later people tend to skip the interviewes either because they have found a prematch or they are simply tired after giving enough interviews or someother reason 9cost issues etc...).

my suggestion if you are looking for a prematch is to again schedule the interview during the middle of the season by that way programes would have looked at fair number of applicants and if they really like you amongst what they have seen thus far they might offer you a prematch.

It is true that if you have late dates for your interviews then you are less likely to get prematch offers simply because a programe might have filled-up their prematch spots!!!!, so my advice would be to pick out those programes who donot give prematch and interview there at or near end of the season, I do believe that if you put up a good show then programe is more likely to remember you when they rank you, however downside is thay the programe might have already seen 100's like you and you might just sound like another candidate for them,,,,,!!!!!!!.
