how can anybody prematch when IV's haven't even started yet??? No programs start IV's before October and most start on November 1st...

no it's not, why is everyone asking the same question 20 times over???? like the one person said, if interviews havn't started, how can they offer prematches over email?? that's strange!! this is why the hype over sept 1 started, ppl overreacting about not being able to match unless they apply sept 1, well i mean i dont think that's the end all be all, but yes it's adivsable to apply early, but it's not impossibe to match bc one didnt apply on sept 1... prematches will start happening whn the interview start rolling in.. so everyone calm down and enjoy the show.. it's about to get real crazy!!

These "september first", "waived LORs", "overprepared candidate" and many other rumors are about to turn into superstitions...  I bet at the end a lot of people are going to fugure out what a waste of time it was worrying so much! 
If anybody tells me they got a prematch already, it will sound as a lie to me.

Anyone who got prematch this early is either some transcendental being to whom the space time continuum doesn't apply or he/she has some insane contacts [ sibling/aunt/uncle/dad's closest friend/long lost brother] working for him!

Not for IMGs as far as I know. AMGs can't get a position outta match. Correct me if needed!

Arlete: you should not say the things that you do not know are rumor. Wired things happen all the time. They might not be a common events but it happens occasionally. About the waived LORs, I was shoked when I heard a friend of mine who happen to be a PD said so, so I thought it is my obligation to let people here know since I learned a lot from this forum. I believe most of us are there to help each other to get throught this difficult time. It makes no sense for anyone to spread rumors that benefit nobody.

Well, my personal opinion is that people play with other's anxieties and start spreading rumors to weaken the competition. Maybe I put rumors and real facts all in the same basket, but I don't think even PDs have an homogenous opinion about what is essential and what may be overseen in the process. I think one has to fight with the weapons they have, even if not perfect the way people say: it HAS to be this, it HAS to be that...

Maybe I am naive. I don't understand how can rumors affect the competition. Isn't the PDs or the committe decide who is going to be interviewed or picked. How can someone save his/her own application by spread rumors. The reason that we are anxiety is because we are new to this whole process and have not enough common senses about it. If we can share our information we will be more rational about it. I think we should have more open manner, less judgemental.

We all have prematch because we all are PRE(before) the match

Prematch means one less spot to hope for, in my opinion. But if one gets it, congrats, more power for him!  I'll never be sorry for somebody else's victory.
gzjcell: there are all kinds of people in the world. I believe most are like you, that try and help others, in this case, sharing information for the benefit of them. But I've met some pretty nasty people (or they only behave badly when stressed out, I don't know) fighting for a residency and that's a fact, nothing to do with my being judgemental. Fortunately, this forum is still a friendly, nice place to hang out.
