Pharyngeal arch cartilage from arches 1-3 develop from neural crest, whilst that of arches 4 and 6 develop from lateral plate mesoderm Since Laryngeal cartilage are from 4-6th arch..then they originate from lateral plate mesoderm.. Source: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/Pharynx_Devt.h...

Thank you kalsam for the answer. It's just hard to believe Kaplan gave the wrong answer and explanation. But I'd go with your anwer. BTW, anybody know what important pregnancy milestones we need to remember? for example when does the fetal movement first occur.... I think it'd be a lot easier to remember them if we really get pregnant once.

First Aid also gives the wrong answer. Page 74 has laryngeal cartilage listed under ectoderm, subcategory neural crest! HY has it correct though.

High Yield page 98 specifically addresses the laryngeal cartilage as an exception to head and neck neural crest derivatives. It even has a diagram with the laryngeal cartilage marked with a separate symbol to show that it is mesoderm!

Laryngeal cartilages from 4th arch cartilage, originate from lateral plate mesoderm
