hi fellow friends i have been a silent user here and have been very inspired by u guyz. i need some advice plz. I am starting my 5 year med school in sept and i do not know when to sit 4 the usmle. I have had the usmle in mind since 2 year and have studied subjects such as pharm and micro to usmle level (using txt Lippin Pharm and MRRS) and also physiology and pathology (i need to learn a lot more path i know). I am an above average med student and do v well at them (dont mean to boast lol sry). My main problem is deciding when to sit the exam ie. either at the end of 5yr (i have 3 months to dedicate solely to USMLE and will also be studying on and off througout the 5yr) OR wait till i graduate and take the exam then (ie. when i am a doctor). I really want to come to the US to be a doc but i dont want to have a bad score so the time i take it is v important. So my qu to u guyz is should i tke it at en of 5yr (3months to prep) or wen i am a doc and take longer. thanks plz reply i am lost lol gd luk

Welcome some Q's? Are you currently a Medical student? WHat year? You said starting 5 year so does that mean you are just starting Medical school? If you are just starting then Use 1st aid to review some But use this time to use the Books, Robbins for path and study the Biochem well. Learn Physio, do not just sit through it, know Physio well. You need at least 3 months to study for step one well. If you are not a US student but outside the US, will not do clinicals in the US then Finish medical school and plan to study for Step one and two, possibly three. IMG's need at least 1 and 2 before residency in the US, possibly step three. good luck.

hi DRFP thanks for replying I am current medical student in my 5 year (it is a 6 year medical course not 4) I am planning to spend 3 months studying intensely for the step 1 with the kaplan course using FA and goljan. The 3 months i have will be studying only for usmle. That will be at the end of my medical school year (5th year) ie. in between my 5th and 6th year. I will also be studying a little bit during my medical school year ie. now until june and will then spend three intense months (8-10 hrs a day) . Between now and june i will have internal medicine aswell as paeds and some other normal med school exams. During this time i will study RR Goljan and audio goljan aswell as kaplan biochem and maybe other kaplan material time permitting ofcourse. Just to mention during my med school course i have already gone through MMRS (2 times), BRS Physiology (3 times) and Lippincotts Pharmacolgy (2 times). This is over the last 2 years. Also do u have any tips as to what i could do between now and june considering that i will have my normal medical school comitments? Do u think its possible to get a 90+ bearing all this in mind? What do u think ur opinion is valued thanks? anyone can reply.
