E. Budd-Chiari Liver biochemical test levels may be normal or demonstrate only mild elevations or nonspecific changes. Occasionally, serum aminotransferase levels may be more than five times the upper limit of normal in fulminant and acute cases. Often, the severity of the hepatic illness seems out of proportion to the mild degree of abnormality on liver biochemical tests HCV accounts for approximately 20% of cases of acute hepatitis. hepatitis C is rarely seen in clinical practice, because the vast majority of patients are asymptomatic. Serum aminotransferase levels peak at about the first month after exposure exceed 1000 IU/L in 20% of cases
