Hello everyone, I have been a silent observer of this forum, and I apologize in advance for my selfishness to use my first post for some backup. But I really feel devasted. I´m a medical student in my final year from Europe/Austria, and I´m planning to apply for the match next year. I did a huge mistake by underestimating the Step2 CK exam, which lead to a low score of 205/84 (June this year). I scored a 95 on Step1 last year, but I think that right now my solid Step1 score is overshadowed by my Step2 CK performance. So, while I´m afraid that I will be filtered due to my Step2 CK score by a lot of programms, do you think that I can boost my application with a strong Step3 Score? Since the number of applicants is rising and there seem to be ALOT of 99/99 Scorers it will be very tough for me to compete. I just hope that 3 months of medical electives in the US will help my application.

electives definitely help...as for filtering out, some prog do have a cut off for scores but some very good programs dont so u shouldnt worry too much...good scores look good, so aiming for a high step 3 score makes sense...i cant say it makes up for step 2 but by itself it has its own place....concentrate on getting getting good LORs from electives as they sometimes matter more in the long run. Hello Mukho, thank you very much for your reply. I guess I just needed some comforting words, and while numbers may matter for some programs, I think there are still many programs which take a look at the applicant as a whole, not just the numbers. I will work hard to get some decent LORs.
