A friend of mine was telling me how he managed to travel by air around the US last year for about $90/destination... ANY destination.

It is a scheme that is sometimes called Visit USA (VUSA) pass. The name differs between different carriers. It is offered by the major airlines to facilitate sight seeing around the states for visitors. The way it goes is that you have to be a visitor, i.e. from outside the US, and you can only get the coupons from abroad, they are not available in the US. You buy a bunch of coupons, say 10 for $900, or like 3 for $320, then you can use each coupon to hop on a flight of your choice. I wonder if anyone has experience with that. I don't want to advertise a particular airline but try running a google search on "visit usa pass". Looks this thing exists for real.

sounds good but how does it work ?

have you purchased it already ?

Would not be a problem, when the plane is all booked and the passengers with the already purchased tickets will have a priority, so you would be stack in the airport ?

The idea is good, but how does it work in reality ? It would work for touristic purpose, where you don't mind where the wind will take you, just hop on any plane to anywhere , but what if you need tobe by certain time in NY city and all flights are booked ?

They also say it can be used for transatlantic flights . do they mean you can go to the US with 100 $ ? But you have to stay in stand-by in the airport until you find a seat on a transatlantic flight ?

wow...that looks nice... have to check it out...

I haven't actually tried it, but I did try to get them last year. I think you can only buy these coupons if you're on a transatlantic or transpacific flight. Then you can use the coupons for flights within the US. You can have your booking in advance so you're seat is pretty much guaranteed (unless you get bumped off for one reason or the other). I was wondering though, if you could get those online. dunno?
