I was told by a hospital I was applying to (that has little expreince with IMGs) that they are sure that H1 visa is not applicable for residency because it is a working visa and residency is training. Are they right? and if not, how can I proove them to be wrong? (BTW - They seem eager to help and not like they're looking for an excuse not to sponser the visa) Please help, it's urgent!

They can sponsor a H1b visa. But it's expensive - and by law the sponsoring hospital must pay for it.
