Schmidt's syndrome is one of the three types of polyglandular autoimmune syndromes (PGAS).
Schmidt's syndrome is classified as Type II PGAS. This type involves concomitant adrenal insufficiency and thyroid autoimmune disease, with or without insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Type I is a syndrome of candidiasis, hypoparathyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency.

Type III involves thyroid autoimmune disease accompanied by either IDDM, pernicious anemia, vitiligo, alopecia, or other organ-specific autoimmune disease
