venous thrombosis of the upper and lower extremities associated with visceral cancer. It is classically associated with pancreatic cancer, but other tumours, particularly adenocarcinomas, can cause it. Also called Migratory thrombophlebitis.

Well its a paraneoplastic syndrome, occurs in a hypercoagulable state so related to recurren deep veinous thrombosus that can migrate anywhere in the body, is related to DIC, and occurs in people with some kind of malignant cancer. Correct me if i am wrong please!!!

yes, u r right...

clot formation and dissoultion is secondary to tumour secretion of platelet aggrgating factors and procoagulants..
Traditionally with pancreatic cancer..as u mentioned..
Lung cancer, colon cancer and gastric cancer may also present with this..

Just to remember Trousseau diagnosed his own fatal pancreatic cancer this way..: )

Thanks!!

The way I've seen this asked is a pt with edema and pain in the left leg. Gets scheduled for some type of scan but when gets in there, left leg is normal but now he's having problems with his right.
