A 65 yr old man has undergone TURP for BPH .

After the procedure the patient develops drowsiness ,dyspnoea and Pulmonary edema ??

Most likely reason ??

Hyponatremia!

It is due to absorption of the solution they use during the procedure that is hypotonic .

Excellent !!!!

It is called as transurethral resection syndrome :

It is due to glycine in the solution which after absorption causes dilutional hyponatremia .It has 50% mortality rate .
