WELCOME! (instead of Bine ati venit!)

I welcome here all romanian doctors preparing for a residency position in US.
When I left Romania about 2 years ago there were about 30% of doctors from my generation preparing this exam. If this percent is the same now I guess this forum should be pretty active.
Please use english on our forums, otherwise any language and dialects through private messages.

Best whishes!

30%? Isn't that a little too much?

Anyway, my problem: I got only NMS books. From the ratings, I understand they are not too good. How bad are them?

Hi Bravo-man,
I am sorry I did not use any of the NMS books and I can't tell you my opinion.
But I know few friends who enjoyed and studied only from NMS for both Step 1 & 2 and they got excellent results.
So after all I think most important is to read something what you like most and ignore the ratings.

Regards!

Hi there! I'm from Romania too, but currently living in St. Louis (for a few more weeks). I'm just gathering info about this exam, I haven't started studying yet. My major concern is about the visa. I will take this exam in Iasi and I'm afraid they won't let me come back. How bad is it at the embassy? has any romanian on this site been through this?
thanks
P.S. admin, I really am glad to find a romanian forum here. I hope we'll here more from the others, 'cause I'm sure there are a lot of them .

Hello,
I am from Iasi too, and I am gathering information about USMLE. We could take this exams in iasi, not only in Bucharest?
I am very glad I found romanian doctors on this forum.

that's what I heard last year, before coming to us, from some doctors at Sf. Spiridon. I'll have to check when I'll go back. Or maybe you could ask somebody there?...you're closer to the source. :P
are you still a student? I finished 4 years and I'll come back this fall to do the other 2.

Hi, I recommend you to buy First Aid for USMLE from www.amazon.com, IN this book, choose the "A" rated books and start studying. More, these books must be completed by web sites, many many Q's and atlases.
In First Aid, NMS are rated as B+ or B-, that's not enough for USMLE.
Good luck!

Yes, Dan. The books. The books are playing hard-to-get. I can't find them in the local store. I have to chase them and gun them down remorselessly when the opportunity arrives. But perhaps you are luckier. smiling face

Bravo-men, indeed, the books are hard to find in Romania and, if you find, there are some old editions. Let me give an advice: get a Taifun card from BancPost (with a virtual debit card, that can be used on Internet), and buy books from net. I bought all my books from amazon and all was OK (the books have arrived at time, sometimes even earlier than forecasted).
The only problem left is that you have enough money to buy them (check the amazon site).
If you want more details, e-mail me your phone number and we'll talk.
Best wishes
Dan
PS: that's why I was a little amazed when I heard that getting the books takes so long....

I get my books from Timisoara but it's taking a whole lot of time. You make the order and then you wait and wait and wait.
I was unacustomed to the card option. So I thought the old fashion way will do it. But I was wrong.

Hi !
I'm wondering if there are any "pauses" allowed between the exams. . .meaning that if one takes for instance step 1 and then he/she takes step 2 after 2or 3 years, the first remains valid? Can you do this?Or there is a time limit allowed between the exams. . .

  #25

You are allowed 7 years to complete both steps.
