I got my result and failed step 1. 164/65. I never had issues during basic sciences, since preparing for a few subject for exams were fine, but reviewing for step 1 I found extremely challenging, since you had to learn everything. I would forget most of what I learnt after reading a few subjects. I feel dumb. Does anyone have problems listening? During live lectures, I tend to loose concentration and forget what was said 5 minutes ago. Similar to listening to Kaplan DVD's or Goljan (he speaks to fast), I have to pause and then rewind and pause, rewind. Anyone have any tips? It's frustrating. I feel dumb. I don't have the stamina to sit down and study straight like my other friends. Please help. Anyone...

I have Attention Disorder , SO I always have to rewind. I would not pay for another course, get the Audio and the DVD's do these since you can rewind and redo what yo need, I keep going back over what I did, infact one of the Kaplan is playing now as I type. Maybe you have the same problem? Did you do Kaplan or UW Q's? You need to if you did not.

i agree with drfp, don't study any new material. just MASTER what you already have. getting new material will just make you more confused. it seems that your study style is really repeating over and over what you have to know, and that is fine--so, just study the material again. i also suggest that you make your review an ACTIVE, rather than a passive, process. meaning, don't just sit there and watch. try to take quizzes after a topic to see if you learned the core concepts. and yes, usmleworld (i didn't do kaplan so i can't recommend it) helps a lot. if at first you get poor scores, practice, practice, practice. you'll eventually get the hang of it. i'll pray for you, dupayster.

and do schedule breaks in between your review. watch tv, have a date, have some fresh air, whatever! you'll be surprised at how your learning curve will increase by having these breaks. best of luck!

thanks HGPRTase for your tips and prayers. My prayers to you to for your future endeavors. thanks DRFP. I deserved that mark. I didn't prepare well. I did USMLE world: 40% average unused. I don't know how people on this site get high averages on USMLE world. Those questions are so specific. When I would study throughout the day, I would feel sleepy and go to sleep. So I would sleep more/rest more than study. Like study for 30 minutes and rest for hours. It's such a pain. I gained so much weight. So I'm going to start exercising and loose this fat on my stomach, get some 6 pack abs. I wish I could study the way I did in high school. I had stamina back in high school and could study for hours and hours. I was so studious. Anyone of you feel sleepy? What do you do about it? It really sucks feeling sleepy, some of those kaplan lecturers are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo borrrriiinnnggggg and/or annoying.... they should say more jokes or something to keep you awake. Like Dr. Kudraff with physio or Goljan with his jokes and stories...

UW doing well seems to be better then 60% per what I see on here And if you remember the USMLE it was specific, and almost in a different language then anything in Medical school. Its the Darn PHD's who write the Q's, it is made this way on purpose, to confuse and frustrate us. Step 2 is easier.

Which version? 2007 is way better then the 04 ones, I could not stand biochem in 04, same guy does Pharm 07 but its better, Biochem is another guy and better this time.

Yeah I'm french, but the french lecturer Lionel, I've had for live lecture, and I felt sooo lost when he spoke. He's sooo smart, knows alot, which I found annoying, cause I felt dumb. and I would fall asleep during lectures cause I found it tiring to listen and stay focused. Same with the DVD's, I didn't finish his pharm lectures, I just skimmed the book.

if u have 2007 version u can down load BS player, after u open the video u want to view right click on it and in the pop up menu uhave playback click on it u will get play back rate click on it and u will get increase by10% and u can repeat it 3-4 times so it increases to 30- 40 % speed wich is pretty understandable. i have no clue where u can get bs player. try googling it. one of my friends had it so i knew about it. but if listening is such an issue u can try it. it speeds up the audio and video and they sound like alvin and the chipmunks but u can understand what they r saying. hope this helps. also start doing q's from day 1 use them for learning at this point rather than for testing. there r a lot of down loaded versions. start with them start with 5 q's /day even if the lectures r a waste these r 5points u'v learned. this will really help u focus on what is imp when u r reading or viewing the lectures. Start with an interstin subject the physio videos r really awesome start with that, or even micro. the new biochem guy is pretty good he keeps u awake , dont tfeel like u have to start from Anat and go from there trust me u will get bored. i trie dto juggle 2-3 subjects at a time i dont think that is worth do what u do well . Take a subject watch the videos solve q;s from that subject. if u want u can use FA to familiarise ur self with it before u actuallty start mugging it or start ongoljan RR a few pages a day. because in the end what is really going to help u in the exam is All the Q's u've done ,FA goljanRR and lectures. but for thisu've to use all the other subjects to build the foundation. I hope this helps and i have'nt confused u too much. Good luck

what i did was know which times of the day i was most sleepy at then scheduled my breaks during those times. oh, and coffee helped me a lot too! another tip: delay gratification! meaning study first then rest later! don't take too much breaks. and if you believe in a God, pray! it helps
