A 72 yo man with meningitis signs and symptoms. What is the best drugs of choice ?

A. Ceftriaxone + Genta
B. Choramphenicol + Cipro
C. Cef + Vanco + Genta
D. Ceft + Vanco + Ampi
E. Cefepim + Clindamycin

Please explain,

Since the patient is 72 yr old .The most probable organisms are

Gm +tive Strept Pneumonei (very common) ) =DOC = Ceftriaxone + Vancomycine

Gm -tive Listeria monocytogenes (second most common ) = DOC = ampicillin + Gentamycin

To cover both I would go for D
