I am really a newbie here, I just knew the website yesterday. and this is my question:

Is it true that you need to pass the exam in the first time and you need to get a high

grade?? I am a IMG, it seems everyone here got a high grade like 99 or 95 in step one.

I just want to know , for a IMG,what kind of grade we need and, what is the consequence

if we take the exam for more than one time.

Welcome

You are more likely to get a higher score the first time

As far as everyone getting a 99 or 95 here, that is far from true, yes some have but others are in the 70's and 80's, you need at least a 185 or 75 to pass.

I have screwed up twice and now preparing for my third time.

The problem as an IMG if you are not an American is getting a residency, its harder to do with repeated attempts, this is true for Americans as well, but being one may give a slight advantage in some cases.

So yes you should try to get this passed the first time.

Good Luck

Thank you for your detailed reply, can you tell me what makes you want to take the exam for the third time, are you a IMG? what is your plan for the USMLE?

Oh my I hate this exam and I do not want to retake it a 3rd time

I failed twice

thats the only reason

If you pass High score, Low score but pass you are done no retakes

well, yea, of course, you want to pass the first time you take it. you don't want to do the same thing over and over.

DRFP,

ARE YOU A IMG?
Do national graduates take the same exams than IMGs do?
Is the minimum passing score the same that for IMGs?

I'm an IMG, I have never taken any of the steps, right now working as a MT in a physician office laboratory, I have been working as a MT for 2 years, does that count as US experience for ecfmg purposes?????

Thanks
