dear sachida, congratulation for this wonderful score.. read about you that youare a junior faculty and still wants to join residency.. kindly share with me, will that make a difference.. in terms of money ( thinking cost effectively in future...., pride of becoming a doctor is obviously there i am in your situation and going for my step 2.. not knowing whether it is a good decision or should keep working on my research job...... i have three kids and sometimes thinking whether this is good decision or not

thank you all, for your kind words and encouragement. USMLEgladiator, I replied your PM. I am going for internal medicine. Zeenat, I think money wise no matter what your degree is you will always make less then a practicing physician. Even professor with oncology devision do not make more then 150K, while in private practice they could easily make >270K. In my institution and I think most places in USA pay for non-practicing allowence if you are faculty and have MD degree. To gain that you will atleast have to be ECFMG certified. May be should have completed residency in some states. Apart from pride after having PhD and working 2 yrs as post-doc and now as entry level faculty, I feel like I am not realizing my potential. Also, getting and writing grants to be independent researcher is equally painful. I would rather do all steps and residency then go through that pain in $%@ process each and every year. Ofcourse, then there is exhaustion and feeling futility with slow going research. I was intelectually stimulated but deprived interms of acheivements. I think I want to feel really good and at times powerful about what I do. Research rarely makes it come true, as physician you are more near to that feeling. Hope this helps everyone...

Dear Sachida, thank you so much for this wonderful reply, believe me it opened my eyes and it 100% convinced me that YES residency is my destination... I am really grateful for this post... the only problem i was not studying was DOUBT about whether it is a good decision or not.. my score is step 1 is not good, if you don,t mind can i email you..... i really want to talk to you if possible....... I am really happy for you and very proud of you... May God bless you... sorry to bother you...... Does number of publications make a difference in getting the residency.... Should i go for family practice or internal medicine...... I am already doing research, will you recommend me to do some observership or not?? will be waiting desperately for your repy
