An 18-year-old girl presents to her obstetrician/
gynecologist with dysuria and frequency.
Urine culture demonstrates Escherichia coli,
and the patient is placed on a 3-day course of
ciprofloxacin. Which of the following adverse
reactions occurs most commonly with this
class of medication?

(A) Allergic reactions and rashes
(B) Gastrointestinal upset with anorexia, nausea,
and vomiting
(C) Mild headache and dizziness
(D) QT prolongation of ECG

  1. Growth plate defect makes them CI in children and pregnant ladies
  2. Tenditinitis and tendon rupture in adults

But GIT disturbance which is very common with so many drugs are the most common adverse effect of flouroquinolines.

Gastrointestinal upset with anorexia, nausea, is the correct answer.
