hi i am unable to get the idea what is the purpose of this finalizing.I did all what was there in the instructions, but a red colored statement appears there saying,"NO LOR's SELECTED". can some one tell me what is the significance of this finalizing? my documents wont be scanned without finalizing or it is just required for applying to the programs?

They want to be sure you won't change the information about the name and title of the LOR author. Only that. So once you know you won't change them, finalize and they will scan as soon as they get to it.

I also don't understand that. I send 2 loRs and they are being shown on document receive verification page on ERASsupport services on ECFMG account. Do I still need to finalize them?

If your docs show up on "Verify receipt of ERAS documents" page, does that mean that they are scanned and ready for the application also? I can see reeipt of my photo, transcript and 2 LoRs. This is confusing.

If they show on "view receipt..." it means they are fisically there. You have to go to ADTS (MyERAS, programs, track applications, my documents) and see the list under "documents that are in the post office" = these are scanned, above the LOR Request (Finalized) = these are finalized but not necessarily got there, not necessarily were scanned. I have a LOR that got there on Aug 4th, and it says that they are now scanning documents from that day. If they start scanning documents received on the 5th, my letter is supposed to show under "documents that are in the post office". This letter is already under "LOR Request" because I finalized. You need to finalize for them to be scanned. You can finalize all the letters you want, that does not mean you have to use them later on. You may have some unused, you choose the best ones.

"All LoR requests must be finalized prior to the request being released to your designated dean's office. You have the option of finalizing LoRs by one or in a batch. To finalize your LoRs select the check box next to each LoR request. Selecting multiple checkboxes will finalize multiple LoR requests." Where do i get to do this ??

ok here are the steps of finalizing 1.go to myERAS 2.click DOCUMENTS tab 3.then click the Letter Of Recomandation tab 4.you will get a box with statement DESIGNATE A NEW LETTER OF RECOMMANDATION WRITER 5.just fill in the boxes, and save. 6.do the same with all of your LORs and save them one by one. 7.you will get the page now as EDIT / VIEW Lor 8.this state means your are not done.Keep on working a bit more. 9.on the left side of the EDIT / VIEW Lor,there will be a small check box.CHECK IT. 10.you will get a notice that you are done finalizing. incomplete finalizing = Edit / view Lors complete finalizing = view Lors (beacuse you cannot edit once finalized) your documents are scanned before you finalize but you cant see them or assign them to programs untill you are done with finalizing. i got all this information by calling ecfmg directly,so all of this is authentic

What I am confused with is - When i type a name of the author - when do i connect it with the appropriate scanned one? do i do it myself or ERAS does it? (sorry for asking a lot of dumb question - i know i am missing out something obvious)

Once you finalize, there will be a list of the LORs in your ADTS. That doesn't mean they are there fisically or scanned, that means you finalized so you won't change the name/position/department anymore. When the letter is scanned, it will be listed in the ADTS as "documents in the post-office" with a number, such as "leter of recomendation #1" or 2, 3, 4, etc., right under "photo, transcript".

thank you all I get the finalizingl but This Designation of a new LOR writer box what is it , I should just write the data about people who wrote my LOR-s ? I don't get it ? My LOR-s are already written and they are already there at ERAS I can see them on "Verify receipt of ERAS documents" page. So whats the point of that designation thimg ?
