Hi
Please help me decide if it is advisable to postpone my CK.
My current date is Aug 19th, I got 560 in nbme 2 two days back but I had only 430 in nbme1 about 2 weeks back.
I was hoping to postpone it by a week but the earliest date in my center is 2nd Sept, do you think it will mar my chances to match this year if i give the exam on the 2nd.
Although my nbme score this time is ok but I think I need to revise lot of stuff before I can face the test, I am still not too comfortable with uw, I think nbme 2 was easier than the uw.
Please help me decide, I am freaking out and would greatly appreciate your input.

Hi Arlete
Thanks for replying. I hold you in great esteem bec you guide everyone so selflessly.
Do you think it will be bad for my chances with getting interviews, etc if the results are late?
Is it very important to apply as soon Sept beginning ?

I am not sure about that, dallas, because I don't have any experience in the match and everything I "know" about it is hearsay...

But I think you are ready for the test. Just reinforce your weak areas, as shown in the NBME graphics. nod

ok thanks for showing confidence in me, your post gave me lot of encouragement and I'll go and tackle the best i can

560 in NBME 2 is goodand the earlier you have both step 1 & 2 scores in hand the more interviews you will get, however, if you have a good score in step 1, it is not gonna make a big difference...Good Luck

Hey Angeles
Thanks for taking out the time to reply
I somehow cant erase from my mind the fact that i have only 430 on nbme1.Also i find uw quite tough. This is making me nervous abt taking the plunge .

I have 93 on step1, which is not top of the line seeing the stellar scores on the forum, that is why it is even more important for me to score well in this one, what do u say?

My main concern is if everyone will get score by oct 8th then why not take a few days more to study but you never know , they might give results earlier too, eveything is so ambiguous abt USMLE and i dont know what is more risky, delaying the exam or giving it with less than complete confidence

Odds are high that you'll get your result on the 8th of Oct whether you take your exam on 19th aug or 2nd sep..If you think a few extra days will give you that confidence you're looking for, go for it..

The only prob I see with this is having to study for another week..grin

Again, it is all up to what you are looking for. If you are looking for "just a residency in a ny specialty" then you should be fine. If you are looking for the residency of your dreams in the specialty of your dreams, then you have to do some extra work and every point counts...Best Wishes
