Hi guys ..
I am new to the forum .. I hope you al get what you wish for and be happy .
I am an IMG ,new graduate intersted in FM. just started the process to get a residency program in USA.
I got to tell you what I read here is really disappointing but I am going to keep going to get a program
my qustion is ..
how can i get an externship or hand on training ? what is the way to do such a thing and for how long is sufficint for the program directors to be impressed? must I have done step1 and step 2 or step1 is enogh or no need for both ?
how to do a research in USA and how long they usually take ?
can I do it while I am preparing for USMLE step 1 ?
I can stay in the USA only one year .

u will need to email individual programs to get an observership. it is usually much easier if you know people in programs to recommend you. even residents.
most will ask for step 1 and 2 and many might ask for ecfmg cert before u start observership.
research again u will have to contact programs by emails. and you might hit the right spot. best way is to contact people you know in programs. friends and friends of friends...and they might be able to help you better.
how long... there is no right answer. depends on many things.
