Guys i need your help. I have requested for an LOR from the chairman of the IM department who also happens to be the dean of our school. can i send the LOR and then ask for a deans letter from him as well? wouldn't it look unpleasant to the eyes of the PD having one writer for an LOR and the deans letter? thanks

Yes you can, provided that LOR and Dean's letter sound very differently...

Dean's letter is a way more official document and does not talk about someone's impression about you and your performance in a certain discipline, say IM. At the same time the Dean's letter is quite a plain document giving details on your overall performance in the med school in all disciplines...
