hi guys, gave step1 today.finally done with the so-feared exam. it was certainly a doable exam.but required time monitoring.u cant spend much time thinking over things u dont know or are unsure about because u may decrease available time for the rest.it happened to me in first block where i spent more time thinking over things i wasnt sure of,and missed 12qs.anyway,i managed time for the rest of the blocks and completed them fully.the exam centre was pretty comfortable. took 2 breaks, one of 10min after 3 blocks, and one after next 2 blocks.so had much time left from my break, and thus finished earlier. as far as preparation is concerned,i had taken 6 months like asma, used all books most people use like kaplan, brs and a number of others. the test had a number of very easy qs which were pretty straightforward, infact i hadnt expected such straight forward qs at all.but it did have its share of equally tough qs,and as u need to make a quick response and move forward,so i am not sure how well i did in the test. but the moral of the story---dont give the exam until u know ur stuff very well.if u think u didnt study something, thats different.but if u cant recall something u already studied, make sure u read it well again for u may be seeing it in exams. all subjects were given equal emphasis.and all sorts of diagrams were there, histo slides, brain scans, abdominal scans etc.so dont ignore something thinking its not high-yield. do practice lots of qs,whatever the source be---i had done kaplan q bank once, though i the end i wished i had time to do it once more.did A&L qs,some qs from nms(though i wished i had done all of them),nbme qs etc.all helped in clearing concepts. and as asma puts it,hard work is certainly the key to success in step1.make sure u know the subjects well enough before u sit up for exam.the exam isnt overall too bad.i did the best i could, but i guess with a little more focussed study,i may have done better.anyway,i'll get the results after around one-and-half month.may God help all who have given,or are about to give the exam(including me and asma who gave it the same day ) and i owe greatly to this forum.it helped me immensely.thanx to asma, usmleasr, kris and all others who participated in the forum actively, and from whose experiences and knowledge i benefitted. please, feel free to ask qs.i'll be most delighted to help in anyway possible.

Congrats anne, can't wait to be there. Wish you all the luck with your score. I do have a question also, i just wanna know what do you think is the best way to prepare for the images part of the exam, like CT's, Histo pics, etc. I suck at CT's, what kind of questions do they ask about them? AGAIN CONGRATS FOR FINISHING UP!!!!

thanx anu, drshar, rida, ashok and quinn for ur warm wishes.may you all succeed with great scores at step exam.as for rida's q,i had done histology and gross diagrams from webpath atlas online.for the neuro anatomy diagrams,i had done then from netter's atlas of anatomy.its a great book. the diagrams at the exam were surely not too hard.they either give u a scenario and ask what could be the characteristic finding;or ask u what an arrow may be pointing at,not at all too hard.even if u havent seen abdominal CTs but have seen those things in gross diagrams,u can easily recogize it.

I've herd that there is a way to check wether you passed it or not before you get the results in mail: try to apply on line for the step you just took - if application is rejected, you passed. Has anyone tried it?

its the oasis trick. there are many topics with this title in this forum. go to https://secure.ecfmg.org/emain.asp?app=oasis, register and make sure the date on it is current and it says your score is reported, then try to reapply, if u pass, u will see a red screen saying u passed this step already.
