Good Luck Asmi,

I am very certain you did well. I read some of the answers and explanations you gave for Biochem and oh boy I hope I am at least half as good as you are. I am pretty sure you will get a high score. I will be giving the exam in July. I am very stress out at this point. I am trying to give at least 5 hours of studying per day.

Well I wish you the best and rest!! You need it. Start for Step 2 in June.

See ya!

Enrique

I am also having same background like you asmi!I am an IMG from india.I did my graduation in 2001.And was working in ICU for one year and now landed up in USA.I am planning to give my exam next month.I am using kaplan notes and Goljan audios.Nowadays I am solving questions from usmleasy.com.I am planning to get kaplan qbank soon.
As i am using same material (kaplan 2001 notes),will you give me advise about for what things i should get some other sources (like BRS etc).
I am revising kaplan...but not satisfied with my first reading.what was ur experience?i dont have other books with me......so please advise so that i will purchase them.
How many days you studied like 13 hrs/day?
What internet sourses u used for few subjects?will u give me those?
As exam is nearby i am very tense...please advise me.
Good luck for your scores!!!

Hi santosh ,
Kaplan notes will look boring while doing first reading .But i assure you that they are the best .They hit on the target, though more details are given in there.Just add BRS physio and behavioural sciences and ofcourse goljan's path review is esential .
About internet resources ,tell me for which subject you need ? You can also find few good resources on this forum step 1 resources .Check that too .
Try to utilize as much time you can in a day .
I know the subjects are dry but try to cling to this forum, try to post those topics in which u find difficulty.I bet , teaching is the best method of learning . Thats what i was doing ,since we feel all alone here in USA ,without friends, to prepare for exam all alone with no inspiration. Therefore we go dull. So, to keep yourself fresh and to create interest in subject ,try to teach others .
Hope this helps

Hi santosh ,

Try to do as many Q's as you can ,do take kaplan Q bank as soon as posssible and take random tests ,so as to evaluate what score u get.

hi, i made step-2 three wks ago and now started to prepare for step-1.
I have Kaplan's STEP-1 lecture notes(3 blocks) ed.2001.Is it enough as a theoretical background before passing tru the MCQs?
I'd like to hear opinion on optimal/proper preparation and general tips for step-1.
by the way if you need i 'll be pleased to share my experience regarding step-2.

thanks,
Leon.

Thanks fetus,

InshAllah i will ask you about step 2 ,very soon .

Now about step 1 ,

Yes if you have kaplan notes ,it will serve the purpose. After reading those notes well , take Q bank and learn new concepts and get used to the method of answering Q's .Since mostly Q's are lengthy (epecially genetics and path,micro,beh.sciences).

Also BSS and NMS will help a lot .

Hope this helps

hI asmi
can you please help? is it nessasery to study both kaplan physiology and BRS physiology ? do you mean that kaplan is not enough?
i am really confused especially that after i compared both books i found them had diffrent information ? at the same time i feel like kalan is easier and directly to the point while brs is too much details ?
please advice ,,,,thank you .

  #38

Hi UMASS,

Yes kaplan is very good indeed but adding BRS will make it more easier..especially the tables given in BRS are easier to quickly review the subject.

What i did is took kaplan as main book(read it twice) and added points from BRS and also at the final revision, i went throu the tables given in BRS + First aid reading .

I know it will be too much but we don't want to take chances right !

take an example of phosphalambin..i think its not given in kaplan CVS chapter ,but its being mentioned in BRS physio.

Hope this helps

very helpful asmi ,thanx ,wish good scores

sorry for the dumb question, but what's the Kaplan book you guys are referring? I have a series of Kaplan review series which is divided into 9 books, 3 in organ system volume, 1 microbiology and Immunology, one in Biochem, Cell Bio, Molecular Bio Genetics, 1 in Bahavioral, and some miscellaneous ones. Please let me know if this is the book you are saying? thank you.
