Halloween time! I just found out that step 1 has at least 2 questons about spiders. I would like invite everyone to talk about them here. I think I know nothing about thise creatures. 1. I remember from USMLE world that spider bite causes coagulation necrosis (though we see this after any injury) 2. I know that you can die from Black Widow spider and her venon is neurotoxin. So, everyone is welcome to share your knowledge...

OK, continue my monolog... -Arachnophobia-... -Spidar venom containes a lot of bio active substances like GABA, enzymes and special protein molecules which have lethal effect. -A lot of misdiagnosed cases... - In the U.S. most common: Black widow and brown or violin (b/w dangerous ones) Of course, California, Arizona, Florida - Black widow spider: the bite not always felt, edema, redness, 2 tiny red spots (important- 2 spots) General: HTN, fever, chills, nausea, weakness, paralysis, muscle spasm - mostly abdomen which described "board like", hyperreflexia, urinary retention, constipation, burning sensation of skin Treatment: antitoxin - loxosceles sp. : pain after 2-3 h, blister, then ulcer Can be rash like Scarlet fever, hematuria Treatment effective only if started in the first 24h, local excision of wound, steroids - Peckham : sharp pain, wheal, edema

So far 20 person read this post and nobody seems to be interested in spiders...pretty scary...at this time I don't see any sense to post the actual questions...so I rest my case.
