Some programs give an option of applying to categorical vs primary care categorical in Internal Medicine. What are the differences bw the two and are there any differences in getting fellowship opportunities in the two fields. Ps:Some programs only have a primary care categorical in IM

primary care residency is geared more toward the outpatient world. You have much more office rotations than hospital ones, this type of residency is suppose to prepare you to be a primary care doctor i.e. family docotr.. It's harder to get fellowships afterwards except maybe geriatrics, endocrine and rheumatology. (just a guess).
