exam date: 30th june result today ie, 6th august.
test center: Chicago
Stayed in red roof inn Chicago Arlington heights
Prep time : 6-7 days ( i know i know, dont ever try like this)
Method: First Aid only. Did all the cases with a CS friend who was staying with me. EVERY SINGLE CASE in first aid. we would practice it all and be very critical to each other. in retrospective that helped. the SPs are not too bothersome but good practice def helps.
No other material tried. Did one case with a friend who is 2nd yr resident in NY over the phone, he was satisfied with my prep.
I would always be the last person to enter the room, Id write PAMHUGS FOSS and LIQORAAA on my sheet. I was nice/courteous to patients introduced myself, and greeted them well. I tried to be empathetic and showed concern about their problems. Its a big drama and you need to act well.
Mistakes I made:
Forgot to drape one patient , realized very late / close to finishing my exam.
Forgot patients name, when i entered the room i realized i didnt write his name. so i had to ask him , " whats ur name ? " SP didnt like it at all.
Didnt do safe sex counsellings in one patient
Didnt do cranial nerves in 3 CNS cases ( i dont know how i forgot this, i practiced so hard to master all cranial nerves in 2 mins)
Mispronounced patients son name, it was Kyle (kai y lee ) i pronounced it as " Kaleeee " pts mother corrected me that its kyle not kalee, I then said "ohh i m sorry so whats going on with ur daughter?" to which she got furious and said, kyle is not my daughter he is my son .... OMG , at that point i wanted to leave the exam center.
My rest of cases were ok with an exceptional good ones.
I am thankful to Almighty Allah for helping me through, i am thankful to my parents and wife for supporting me.

OMG, really!!! These were funny! lol!!! Hope you don't mind me laughing? I had some hysterical situations too. So you're not alone.
But, hey, we passed! And THAT"S what matters!

hey rahulp ! i dont have any of step 1 notes. the ones that i used were 2002. pretty old. try looking for them on ebay.com i am sure people are selling new / old notes on ebay! i hope that helps.

no paheli i dont mind at all. it was actually funny - when i narrate this story its more fun, my friends bet that i wont pass with the kind of mistakes i have made, but you know funny things happen
