I just took the NBME4 offline and made 125/200. With my Step coming on Aug 30th you can imagine my sheer, utter panic right now. I know some of the tests are supposedly harder than others but I am beginning to lose hope at a rapid pace. I can't delay my test any longer and need extremely effective advice on what to do now. I have listened to Goljian 3x Read my FA 1.5x Watched the Pharm, Biochem, and Micro Kaplan videos Done practice questions on UW (did horrible and it crushed my confidence) I am to the point wondering if I am just stupid or something? I should not be making as low of a score as I did when I began studying 4 months ago. Please someone advise, someone who's been given 4 weeks to turn it around and succeeded.

Amgs say 4 is easier than rest since more pharm. imgs say same or harder. It made me redo my pharm. Do usmle cd sample qs for another correlation. I would not sit unless I was confident. I have already failed this exam once so take my advice with gain of salt. I am more confident this time since I have already done CK, so have a head start in path, pharm, bs and micro. but I am still finding it tough. I thought 125/200 is borderline pass so I think you are improving slowly. My aim is to beat the mean on a bad day. TC

Dear SpeaksSoftly! First don't be so hard on yourself, don't even think to call yourself stupid because all our words have power... so, you are smart because you are HERE... 4 weeks is a lot of time, you can learn a lot, you can practice a lot of questions but see where you are at the end. Take the exan when you feel ready, when you are at least on the passing 80+ side. I was told that you need to get at least 430 on the computer-based form. Postpone it if you are not ready, just a little bit of time can change a lot. Good luck!

Sorry Speaks I was thinking about nbme 5, not 4. My mind is getting fried from too many mcqs. I think 3 & 4 are the best correlations. I am concentrating on big 3. pharm/micro & immuo/path I think if you know these well you will pass. I found Dr Daughtery mcq strategy very helpful, same as qbook advice on doing mcq. I can double my thru put of mcqs by cheating ie I look at the answers. And I always do mcq by subject which helps the knowledge bank. GL My last post, I am in lock down mode for exam. No more reading the web. No more posts. And do not forget to study a little BS for the easy marks

Hey SpeaksSoftly, my exam is also Aug 30, I havent done any NBME's yet or a lot of qbanks. I started but ended up depressed with my scores. I didnt finiish first read yet of a few subjects. took a month vacation from work and i am stdying full time. My friedns tell me, u still have 3 weeks, keep studying and studying and keep the last week just for reviewing FA and nothing else. My plan is to study hard until 25 and 26, then i will do NBME form 5 and 6, and forms 1-4 offline. and then decide to go to the exam or not. I cant postpone coz already did that, my only choices is to sit for the exam or not go. If i dont go then i wont be able to apply for match 2009 since i also haventd done CS and CK. KEEP STUDYING!!! Its not a hard exam, all u need is to give it the time needed to master the high yield stuff. only high yield. Another advice: Do micro and pharma really good, u can master these 2, if u do the questions will be so easy and ace them, will puch ur score much higher.

Thanks for the advise folks, I appreciate it. I continue to do MCQs and also have dug my heels in hard on pharm and patho-phys. At this point there is no turning bac and I have to sit the test by Aug 30th. Ramadan begins on Sept 1st and I know my brain will not work as efficiently while fasting. So it's all or nothing on that day. I may do NBME 5 next week and then NBME 6 the week before to see how it all works out. Inshallah, I will improve my score to around 480-500.
