What is the first diagnostic test for Pulmonary embolism

is it spiral CT scan or V/Q scan?

  #2

Previously it was the decided on the basis of chest X-ray whether to use V'/Q or CT ?
If chest X-ray is good = V/Q
If chest X-ray shows some previous disease = CT
Nowadays the test of choice is spiral CT scan.

Kaplan mentions that spiral Ct scan is frequently performed initial test for diagnosis

They also mention that spiral Ct might miss embolus in small peripheral arteries

  #7

I'd go with spiral CT

  #8

Even I would go with spiral CT scan because the definitive diagnosis is made by spiral CT,V/Q scan and pulmonary angiogram but spirat CT scan is the most frequently used-------->uworld
