I know no one in the united states..I have very distant family friend(not a relative) and I dont think i can stay with him for 6 months i.e. oct to mar for the interviews and all..
I am sure there must be some(if not many) people like me who just dont know any one in the united states.. i wanted to know where are you planning to stay and what are you planning to do during this time...it has really become a headache for me...renting a place.....doing nothing ..sitting at home and waiting for interviews....it hurts..sadsad

Please do let me know what can i do and what are you planning to do..
I shall be thankful..

I guess you first have to select a place (city, state) to stay. I wouldn't recommend choosing coasts - very expensive + hectic lifestyle... However, it may depend upon geography of your applications. If you solve this problem, then look at local university/college campuses - there are many people who want to sublet their rooms... You may have it for $300-400/mo + shared bills... And of course, you will find some people there from your home country for moral and other kind of support...

Also roommates.com

Look up any college seniors. Even if you can't stay with them for long, ask them for sugestions.

Good luck.

What about classmates - especially those from a previous year who might be in the states? Don't come to the states until you have your interviews in your hand - that would cut some of the costs.

That would also facilitate visa application and a positive outcome of it...

Yes you are right...
Good thing would be to schedule together whatever interviews I might have and then see..
And classmates/seniors...yeah..that's an option but Its tough...
Option 1 seems better..
come to the US with IVs in hand and rent a place for sometime near the places and have an open mind and just keep moving...smiling face

Thanks everyone..
The forum is so helpful because of people like you for people like me..
