Can someone please advise me as to what book to use for studying biochem? I do not have a good background in it and I don't know if Kaplan is easy to follow and understand from or would you recommend another book such as:
1) Lange: Harper's Illustrated Biochemistry
2) USMLE Roadmap Biochem
3) Rapid Review Biochem

Definitely use Lippincott's illustrated review. Thats king for biochem

so you mean read the lipincott textbook of 500 some pages? versus a review book....hmm so no one recommends kaplan huh?

well if u have never learned it before......than lippincott would be the best way to learn....u can stil learn from kaplan as well....but it would b a bit harder to do so

I read Lippincott and trust me you will waste time and you won't remember anything. Biochem is not highly testes and Kaplan is more than enough. I'm using Kaplan now. RULE NUMBER 1: NEVER READ BIG BOOKS RATHER USE THEM FOR CLARIFICATION PURPOSE.

I suggest you read Rapid Review Biochemistry. One of the co-authors is Dr. Goljan from RR Pathology.

Ummm okay well I guess it depends on how much time you have. I have heard that biochem isn't that high yield on step 1 but remember that questions can come from anywhere. A friend of mine who took the step 1 last year got killed with biochem. Luckily he had read LIPPINCOTT'S. If you pressed for time then BRS is also really good. The problem is that you have to already have a good background to get much of anything out of BRS, or KAPLAN. If you think lippincotts is too long try studying from the pics and figures while reading KAPLAN. The illustrations in lippincotts helps to make biochemical pathways more concrete in your mind. Hope this helps
