I would check with Immigration to be certain - you don't want to be caught out of status....

If your I-94 says you can stay for 6 months then you should be fine until Dec but You should call your Embassy to confirm, you don't want to have problems later for J1 or H1B. Good luck!

Yes, please confirm, because from what I know, nobody can stay in the country with an expired visa. They giving you a 6 months period doesn't make sense, in this case. Good luck!

Hey... I am in the same situation. My understanding and what I have been told is: the ovt 7 date you were given in India is the last possible date you can leave from India to US. Once you enter US how long you can stay here is determined by immigration official at your point of entry. so if he has attached the slip with the seal that says valid till december then you can legally stay on till december.

This is a quote from US Dept of State Website: You should carefully consider the dates of your authorized stay and make sure you are following the procedures under U.S. immigration laws. It is important that you depart the U.S. on or before the last day you are authorized to be in the U.S. on any given trip, based on the specified end date on your Arrival-Departure Record, Form I-94. Failure to depart the U.S. will cause you to be out-of-status. I 94 is form attached to your passport at POE. Also if you look at the back side of that form you will see that they have mentioned that you can stay till the date given in the form.

http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/entering_us/... Yes, apparently the I-94 is what determines when you have to leave, NOT the visa. Better like this, then.
