Hi. ok so after always readin everyone else's experience on the exam, i get my chance today as, i got off step 2 ck exam a couple of hours back.

Feel jet lagged but wanted to get the load off my chest before i take time off to enjoy better things in life then studys and playin doctor doctor in reallity again.

Well i wont go into details bout the morning before or the morning after or the night before.

To the point:

1. USMLE WORLD do as many QUESTIONS from there and practice it from day one, THAT Is how the real exam looks at least for next 6 months or so till, ECFMG acts up and changes its way of presenting it.

2. USMLE SECRETS get that book, i would rate it even higher then usmle world because its got everything which is high yield.

3. Do kaplan notes once if you have the time to familiarise your self with the subjects.

4. Dont spend months on this exam, its do able by grilling it over a period of 2 months. After all we spend the first 4 months gathering books and only sitting for the xam a month and a half before, when the tension kicks in.

5. Spend most of your time doing questions infront of the computer because 9 hours is a long time to be sitting in the real exam and doin it on a chair which tires you out. so its all about the stamina and abilitiy to sit it out in front of the computer without strainin ur neck or gettin cervical spondolysis.

As for me i gave it all i had for a month and a half , and i had stuff which i knew and stuff which i didnt, but overall i guess ill leave it to GOD and pray that i make it thru.

HOPE this brief helps. Exam is do able if we get the right approach before it.

I feel that I am not ready for the questions yetsad

Just bought Kaplan Q book, do you think it is good?
Thought that I can do that first with theory, and after that 2 months before the exam pay for UW?
Anyone has any suggestions?

pipi u will be delaying it a bit too late to be doin the questions 2 months from the time of exam.

We forget that this exam is MCQ based and the more questions you do from the start more familiarise you will be with the questions and what to look for to find the right answer in them.

if it were step 1 i would have been more in agreement with doin the theory till u have it memorised, but step2 ck is more clinical and is dependent on how many mcq's you do and how good u time ur self so you are able to do it with in a minute which will be the approx time on the exam you will be required to attempt the question.

Plus the mcq's teach you what is required in each question, in my opinion going through books would be strenous exercise which is less fruitful, then conquering the UWORLD Mcq's 2323 of them, which is based on the real format of the exam and is a true simulation of the real exam.

I found first aid step 2ck QUestion and Answers book more useful then the kaplan Q book, i think kaplan questions arent the true representation of 2008 ecfmg usmle step2 ck exam, as opposed to Uworld and First Aid Question and Answers.

Usmle secrets is all high yield i found stuff from it stayed in my mind more then the kaplan books.

if i were to give step 2 again, i would do UWORLD fully first then read kaplan books once and then do first aid Q&A and finally usmle secrets. and 30 days before the exam do the UWORLD and FIRST AID Q&A and Usmle secrets revision again.

lastly give the xam three months of good studyin and just give it, its not one of those exams where u need 6 months, delaying it to that extent doesnt help extend your knowledge either.

Lastly these are my opinions and i dont wanna sound smart by my observations regarding the exam.

Good luck!

Thank you!
I will buy 3 months for UW questions. I just need to do the complete fisrt reading. This should be done by end of August (IM and psych twice and very good readings). So at that time I will concentrate more on questions and revising other sibjects (surgery, peds, Gyn-ob and ethics as much as I can).
This working schedule does not allow me much free time shaking head
Thanks for your help. You can always advice me if you have something on your mind. I don't think that you are acting smart, but just you have been through it. Thank you!nod

Keep in mind that IM makes up 70 percent of the xam , followd by paeds 15 percent, gaynae obs, psychiatry nd surgery 5 percent each.
And also is the same pattern or ordr of appearance in xam 4m most to least.

Well i didnt understand what u meant by doin UWORLD questions without reading them?

in any case Uworld you can adopt any technique which suits you, if ur slow in reading its suggested that u first go thru the 46 questions in timed mode, that would not only let you know what you are lacking subject wise but also how many questions you are able to do in that 1 hour. If you keep on doin it earneslty it should increase your speed of attempting each question and is useful on the real exam.

After goin thru it in timed mode you can review and analyse your questions which were wrong and even the correct ones.

Making side nots on an index card is useful, alo of diseases have associations or buzz words which you can try to remember or recall.

remember every MCQ has some fact or figure or lab value which gives away the disease so the more the mcq's you do the easier it will be for you to catch that phrase or buzz word.

dr. who i searched internet for secrets snd found a whole bunch of them , surgical secrets,..... medicine ,
....
which one are you talking about....?
one more thing i believe there is new trend of psichiatry predominant tests in 2008 , according to recent test givers .... have you noticed that , and wat percentage ?
thanx , and wish ya a over 260/99 man

  #18

I did notice psychiatry questions, but i wouldnt call it an upsurge, i think i came across 10 to 12 psychiatry questions in my exam. Internal medicine makes up the majority followed by paediatricts and gaynae obs and then psychiatry and surgery.

its called USMLE STEP 2 SECRETS by dr. bocheret
