what is their function in the heart?

  #2

Its permeable to Na ,K and Ca ions
Opening the gate requires glutamate binding and voltage dependent membrane depolarization because the NMDA receptor is plugged by extracellular Mg ions at resting membrane potential
This receptor is clinically important because it causes excess influx of Ca ions (glutamate toxicity) Hope this helps

Hi, coming back to the question....so what does the NMDA receptor do then.....it initiates AP for myocardial contraction?

  #5

i think this calcium helps in contraction more than for action potential
