I think the Interstial cells of Cajal are deep in the Mesencephalon near the reticular nucleus of the thalamus. Adjacent to the dorsalmedial border of the red nucleus. Is it the nucleus that regulates the medial longitudinal fasciculus that was formally confused with the nucleus of Darkschewitsch?/but it is separated from the latter with a thin lamina of fibers??

Interstitial cells of Cajal are specialized cells found throughout the gastrointestinal tract that are essential for normal gastrointestinal motility.

they regulate motility, and contain the enzyme heme oxygenase-2 which generates carbon monoxide (CO) as a neurotransmitter to cause relaxation in adjacent smooth muscle cells. The lack of ICCs in pyloric stenosis results in deficient CO production leading to motility dysfunction.
