1 40 yr old w/ 20 yr history of alcohol abuse is brought to hospital by his friend because he was difficult to arouse he ate a large meal several hrs ago he is emaciated and lethargic examination shows severly restricted horizontal eye movements and ataxia of both the upper limbs ,the most likely cause of this is defiency of which of the following

folate

vit b1

vit b6

vit b12

should be b-1 (thiamine). i think b-6 is pyridoxine, and while it is diminished in alcoholics, it tends to produce a sideroblastic anemia rather than acute CNS effects.

idiopathic -i think u are right it looks like thiamine def.
