A 9 mo old who was fed on whole milk presents with pallor, irritabiltiy and a murmur. On lab work, u will find these values in ascending order:

A) dec ferritin, inc FEP, dec serum iron, inc binding capacity, dec Hgb
B) dec Hgb, dec serum iron, dec ferritin, inc binding capacity, dec FEP
C) dec ferritin, dec serum iron, inc binding capacity, inc FEP, dec Hgb
D) dec serum iron, dec ferritin, dec HGb, inc binding capacity, inc FEP

Answer is C

I expect iron stores (serum ferritin) to deplete first before any other abnormality appears in the blood last of which should be the anemia (dec HB).

yes there is no difference in LAB values .. but the ASCENDING order or system of findings is different. grin
