jhmd nice to see you reporting so regularly unlike the person who started the thread! AS you said my exam is sooooooooooooooooooooooo close that I am trying to catch up on reading Kaplan 2nd read and then plan to do tons of FA in a day! Thanks for your prayers. I need it !

It has been a long day and hard but tomorrow I'll finish my physiology Kaplan read and hopefully move to Pathology ...if nothing happens, I mean that my doctor told me that I had to be resting but I can not do it really well...God is my helper so I am moving with HIM in all this process of being a mom and student for step 1.Target keep going , your effort will have a good result.Here you have a lot of prayers

Hi everyone, i am an img who did step 1 in 2005. I got an 82...dont quite remember 3 digit score. I just want to give you some tips if thats ok
I never used first aid i used kaplan only big mistake. As an img our curriculum didnt focus half as much on basic sciences as yours does and in fact i dont have a BSc we go straight into med school from high school. I just studied for my basic sciences exam and then did kaplan Q book.
2 months before
First Aid 5 a day is great but i also suggest do UW 50 q a day and really go over the wrong answers. And then when you finish the entire q bank do over all the questions in the disciplines you suck at...for me that was biostats, ethics. Then do quizzes made up of all your wrong questions. I really think this approach works and do not underestimate step 1 ...it is really hard. In addition because UW is in the format of exam and computer based you get used to the idea of sitting 8 hours in front of the screen. On the test day some of the questions will feel like deja vu i promise.
2 Days before exam
Rest your eyes!! Dont read anything not even captions.
1 day before exam
Good night sleep
Day of exam, scope out your exam centre and where the nearest food place is.Carry a snack, energy drinks, etc. But around the 4th or 5th block---go for lunch. Eat a real warm meal. You cannot function on a hungry stomach. But time yourself well. I went to Denny's for lunch and it took 45 min...it didnt really jeapordize my time and when i came back i was refreshed, ready to go.
Cause trust me you are gonna feel really sleepy, i fell asleep a little...thats where the enery drinks come in
These things i learned on step 2....by then i got a 97....whilst step 2 is a little easier than 1 these tips i'm telling you are the changes i made for step 2 that made a big difference.

Jayhan, that was so sweet of you to give us these tips especially since you are far out in the game -completed step 2and all. We will remember also that step 1 is hard and let usnot take it for granted. We will be prepared for the worst, WONT WE guys? I believe Kaplan doesnt cover ethics well - any other source anybody can recommend.

GH ---secretory pulses at night stage II &I V ( non REM sleep )
Epinephrine most of it arises from post ganglionic sympathetic neurons...+glycogenolysis ---lactate "Cory Cicle "in liver"---recycle back to glucose --plasma glucose.

I'm using FA with the Kaplan videos and adding stuff, points made about the test in there the pearls they give!
I did 10 pages yesterday probably do another 5 easily today!
I think if you know all of FA and do the Q's we should be in good shape
