A cross sectional study is a study done at one time, not over the course of time. A cross-sectional study might be of a disease such as AIDS at one point in time to learn its prevalence and distribution within the population. Case control involves two groups. one with the disease(cases) whose past exposure are compared to the group who did not develop the disease (controls). Allows calculation of odds ratio.
