A 19-year-old woman comes to the physician requesting an oral contraceptive. She is sexually active with one partner. She underwent a splenectomy 3 years ago after sustaining blunt trauma to the abdomen. Her vital signs are within normal limits. Physical exam shows a well-healed, midline abdominal scar.
