A 12-year-old girl is brought to the physician by her parents because of a sore neck for 4 days. Her temperature is 37.7C (99.9F). Exam shows tender swelling anterior to and just above the thyroid notch of the neck. The physician explains that there is a cyst in tract along which the thyroid gland descended. All of the tract tissue must be removed between which of the following structures to treat this patient’s condition?

A) Left lobe of the thyroid gland and tonsillar fossa
B) Right lobe of the thyroid gland and epiglottis
C) Right lobe of the thyroid gland and hyoid bone
D) Thyroid isthmus and foramen cecum
E) Thyroid isthmus and piriform recess

C......OK/

I think the answer is D because that is the thyroid gland descends from the foramen cecum to below the thyroid cartilage. In addition, from the question stem it seems that they are hinting that this is a thyroglossal duct cyst. These are my 0.02 cents.

Could the OP please post the correct answer and its justification. Thank You.
