Hi I screwed up 2 times, why is the 2nd the last? I'm not giving up as others, I now understand, for me I tried to prepare the first time under high stress with family problems, second time just did not do the right things and now this is my third but I have learned from the Past ( I think)
What ever you do ( others please correct me) I think, DO the NBME online like the real thing and if you cannot break 400 then study and revise untill you can, but take them and pay for them.
The USMLE is 700 itself so the 45 or 50 dollars is not that much.

hey penzy! dont worry about the past, so now u know u will retake, i think for most it is most difficult to accept the failure and then to regroup and plan to retake, which u are already there, so good for that! as for practice mterials, yes goljan is essential, and please, PLEASE do the nbme online!! it's not the same as offline (i did all online so i dont know how else) but the only thing i did know was that the first time i took step 1, my nbme was not in passing range (ie >420 ideal to passing usually arond 200 score) and the second time i dotn think i studied that much more, but definitely did more quetions and nbme's and learned from nbme after i did form so u can use ur nbme book to do the questions afterwards but definitely do them online first to get proper assessment, we all think we know our approximate percentages offline, but the sad truth is that we dont and then we get upset.. the purpose of those practice exams was to see if we are ready or not, so please do urself favor and do at least forms 5/6 (newer forms) online, as i felt my exam was a mix of both of these forms with some scattered with the style type of form 1 and 2.. oh and do not forget ur first aid (FA) that is jut vital buddies, u have to know that book inside and out, so many easy points come from there especially in pharm and embryo, it summarizes all nicely.. do it 2X before u exam intensely, and it should help wiht the 'easier' type questions!! best of luck buddies!!

thanks for ur advice guys but do i have to reapply using the same old procedure including form 186 and what fees and do u think 2.5 months is enough if i study hard i have a 2 year old kid too

I'm wondering if 3 months is long enough! So I do not know? I do know if you take the NBME about Half way through and do not break 400 then you are not ready. in My book 2.5 months is 2 months since in 2 weeks you cannot learn enough, so 3 months is the same as 2.5 months of real study time.
If some one else thinks different then please tell us.

oh, yes, don't use the downloaded nbme exams, yu won't know what you lack. i like to save money, but this is something i must pay, you should do the same.
and if you have money, maybe it is time to take a prep course, so you can learn what you didn't do right last time.

i'm sorry that you failed, but its not the end of the world..... hang in there! everyone here has given you great advice, do nbme online, goljan, kaplan and FA..... you can do this and you will!!
as far as reapplying for exam, only have to do the online part, Form 186 stays on file for 5 yrs..... good luck and happy studying!
