Hi everybody just wantedto share my thoughts .This whole usmle process is so exhausting .I amhere in us for last four months living with very closed family relatives who have looked after me so well but still there are times when ifeel so low and wonder about all those who are working towards residency and they dont have a family or friends in this country .How tough it must be for them and then I really pray to god then that all those who have left their family backin in india and struggling all alone may reach their goal and get residency .This process drains u out totally emotionally phisically and financially.

You're not alone raaghav. I came back to the US back in 2003, almost penniless after living abroad for the last 20 years. Have no memories of my past life here as a kid. I've been working here and supporting my retired parents back home. Haven't been back in since. Could not even afford to go back for my brother's wedding. I just saw my dad as he is visiting me after four years and it was a shock as he has aged quite a bit. Still haven't seen my mom and youngest brother.

I know about the feeling of hopelessness. Such is life. Keep your chin up my friend. Like all bad days these days too shall pass.

I'm not trying to make anyone sad. True story though. Just trying to make raaghav feel better. He sounds really home sick and I thought I should reach out. Very uncharacteristic of me but oh well.

Thanks raaghav. Didn't mean to make you sad but really my advice to you is that use these experiences to make yourself stronger. Don't let these hardships bring you down. They just add flavor to life. You'll be a better doc because of the hardships you have faced

c'mon.. cheer up raghav..no situation lasts for long...learning to see "through " the cloud is tough, but worth it... i am a full time mom who was struggling with usmle for the past 2yrs..its been 3 yrs since i met my folks....there were many instances when i felt low and guilty about the fact that im not spending as much quality time with my kid and for not being around my aging parents(im their only kid)...but then, im an ordinary human, not a superwomangrin ...i've come to terms with the fact that i cant be omnipresent to be there for everyone...hehehehe...u cant have ur cake and eat it too, its said....all of us have our own issues... for now, what we ought to do is focus on our goal and keep moving towards it with the expectation of reaching it...we all are here for a purpose and as doctors, our purpose is pretty clear ....do ur job as best as u can without considering the outcome...make urself ur best friend....and if u r a believer, trust the God in you....u'll never be let down by anything/anyone....Good Luck with everything!smiling face
