Hi, folks.

I am one of the 10 members that has been given free activation to a specialty list on matcharesident.com

I haven't yet spent time going through each prog on their list or verified their accuracy. But, I will say that their response has been swift, and the activation of my account prompt. Details on the info of each prog includes Application deadline, % of IMGs, visas sponsored, requirement of USCE, grad yr cutoff, min scores, whether ECFMG cert is reqd for IV call etc

Again, I haven't yet had a chance to verify the details, or compare with my own research into progs so far, but I'll keep posting on my impressions.

I urge other members who have availed this offer to also share their impressions, so that we get a clearer picture of what is offered.

P.S. Let's be honest in our conclusions, everyone!

Nice promotion... Something to crow about, certainly...

Anyway, here is my opinion: I tried to create accounts in a few "engines" with the same info (scores, year of graduation, USCE, etc.) on myself, and no two similar sample lists were thrown out... I don't know, but this seems to be unreliable... The matcharesident.com gave me two programs of a certain specialty in my state, and there are only two of this kind, but I know FOR SURE that one will not take me... So, I am given a FAKE HOPE...
In addition, I will accept $79.00 from any of the forum members to make a custom list for any specialty as well, just because it's enough time to call programs/search their cites, whatever...

Hello,

thank you for starting this topic,

I did not understand Justice's evaluation fully but I will try my best to comment on each of the posts.

In regards to some program that may be there but you have doubts if they accept you or not is true for few programs in the list. For example, a Mayo clinic program may tell you that they have no minimum requirements and some of these we have seen happen in the past 4 years. We as a service can not eliminate any prestigious programs because they "seem" to be not truthful with their minimum requirements; we have to put what is given to us without eliminating or overlooking any of the requirements.

Also a small percentage of the program do not provide ANY information about their program. Not even on their websites. They just want you to send your application, period.

Please remember that the whole purpose of the list is not the content (of course the content must be accurate) but the list itself since it is a customized list...the list is narrowed down for you so you can then make a final decision which ones to apply for. Its not easy to call each program and ask about the requirements. We have to go through 3 phase procedure to get the information on a yearly basis. The system is also dynamic; any updates that happen during your membership you will have access to including program updates, member comments and reviews.

Please bring any questions and I will be more than happy to answer them. The main reason for these 10 free activation is to have the leaders give their opinion about the list helping other in making a decision.

Na'im me'od to all I see some Hebrew in the forum.

Thanks

To be honest I was done with my list of Ithe Programs in Illinois and basically I already had 80 to 90% of the Information I collected from Freida, the Program own webpage and scutwork. It took me one day to research 20 Programs. So far the informatio given by MAR was reliable but not much different of what we can obtain if we do our homework.

Matcharesident (MAR) provided me of an extra 10 to 15% of the information that I still need to confirm with the PCs. However not every PC is like our dear bbb that we have here in prep4usmle, for instance, I just got one answer out of 5 e-mails so far.

How Does matcharesident collected information of Programs that don't have any information for IMGs in their webpage?

Based on MAR criteria(scores, USCE, graduation year, visa requirement) I "matched" to addicional University Programs, maybe I overlooked some programs on my research or maybe it is a false hope but researching some University programs I noticed that all their residents came from US medical Colleges...

So, botton line is eventhough I've done my homework and have a free suscription in MAR (thank you) I feel that I still need to confirm some information...

Ivonne, you said it right.

I had pretty much done all that I could, contacted all progs and collected details gleaned from their websites as well as emails. Yet, there are some progs that did not reply or did not answer precisely. I've used MAR to complement the missing bits. Overall, the info on their site matches mine, and I hope that the missing bits I've gathered from MAR are accurate.

Btw, there are a few typos [like 900% IMGs instead of 90%] Minor stuff, but the site would look more credible, professional if these were fixed.

The only point I'd like to add if that I gathered my info straight from FREIDA and prog sites. MAR has done the same, but only shown me the ones that match with my creds. Hence they may have missed out on showing a few progs that I'd consider [or vice versa] even though it's not a perfect match. Perhaps there's only so much an algorithm can do.

On the whole, I'll say that the info on it is not wrong or misleading. It's worth a try.

Well,

although same things can be collected on my own, I am happy to have it since I am too pressed for time with CK to tackle at hand

Not that I will not confirm what is given there, but gives a start..and something to fall back on when the programs don't respond.

Matcharesident- it doesnt mention whether it is university program or Comm. program uni affiliated or comm. program

ofcourse that we can search it on frieda....

i dont know whether its imp to know at this point as competetin is very high and any position would be good if we manage to get.winkwinkwink

  #16

Hey.. I am planning to buy one of these ''lists''.. since I wont have (and havent had) a lot of time to spend on searching for the programs.. Not that I wont do my own research, but it would make it a lot easier for me..

So, those of you who know, would you say MAR is the one to buy if I have to, or should I consider some others as well...

few of them are not updated!!!around 3-4 IM programs out of 91 programs i have looked by myself..

  #18

Dr. deoriverajr,

Our full update will be completed by August first. You will find few "criteria" in one program mismatched until we reach these programs by the end of this month. Our database is dynamic and will allow you to see any update within your access period, including program updates and user comments and reviews.

Also please do not use program websites as a sole source to compare since these program websites are usually outdated. Use recent email response or make a random selection and call.

Does match a resident mention what kind of usce is considered as clinical experience by the particular programs

I saw that they have a column which says USCE required yes/no but just wanted to know if they mention the specific usce according to program criteria

  #20

To matcharesident.

How much is the access period?

USCE type is not a necessary question to ask. The majority and if not all residency programs do not consider research and observership. Externships and Internships are good to go. If you only have research or observership then pick "No" for UCE question. Remember that you have your ERAS application to add your clinical experiences in general.

U mean to say Research Experience is not helpful.
