Hi everyone,
I sat my step 1 in May, and my Step 2CK yesterday. I just logged into ECFMG, to check dates and schedule my Step2CS and it's showng the first available test date (at any centre) as January 2009!
I'm an IMG, and was planning to apply for this year's match (for a July 2009 residency start). I intended to sit the CS at the end of August, so that my result would be available in time for my residency application. I realise nowthat I should have scheduled it earlier, but I didn't realise that the wait was so long.
My questions are:
1. Is that correct? There's a 6 month delay before I can even sit the exam?
2. Is there a "waiting list" I can put my name on, for test dates that become available earlier?
3. If I sit the exam at the start of January, can I still apply for this year's match? Or am I pretty much out of the running?
Lastly (and this is a long shot), is there anyone on this forum who has an earlier test date, who wants to swap for a later one (at any test centre after the new year)?
Thanks in advance for all your help. I have a sinking feeling that I'm not going to be able to match this year

Hi,
I will answer question number 1: Yes, the next available date should be in January. Unfortunately the CS is booked upfront for 6 months almost any time.
I don´t know if you can still go for the match in 2009, but try what you said at the end.
There might be another way with seeing if a date becomes available, but I don´t know for sure how this works.
Anybody elsa can help lee_alkureishi with this issue?

Yes, I have heard that too. We need to book 6 months in advance. I also plan to take it in January, so I'd better book it as soon as possible.
I don't know if there is any way that you can have exam earlier, sorry to hear that....

Lee,
Keep checking 24 7 and new dates become available as some people cancel their appointments...if you and a few friends persistantly check for dates you will most likely get an earlier date....

hi,
thanks for confirming my fears :/
I checked the website again, and it allowed me to set notification rules if dates come up. I've set them up to notify me if anything comes up between now and December. Fingers crossed!

hiiii friend....your experience is similar to mine....i gave my ck on july 17th...on july first week i signed up for ck and cs.....and the available dates were on the end of dec 2008.on the ecfmg site they say we have to do the cs before dec 31 , for 2009match.so i took a date on 25 dec.then after that i was busy prep for ck...meanwhile oneday i just checked and got a date for nov first week.so you dont have to worry atall.....just keep trying...surprisingly lot of people cancel.there a preference link alalso...you can put your need.and ecfmg will notify you well someone cancel during that period..............jus relax...everthing will be fine.you took your ck on17th...how wasit?pls share your experience if you dont feel bad.i am nervous waiting for the result.

hi,
i sat the ck on the 16th. it was ok, but fairly tough. in each 46-question block, there were probably 8-10 questions i wasn't sure of at all, which is pretty much how step 1 went too. I think it was tougher than the nbme forms, but i'm hoping that the tough questions were all "test" questions i.e. don't count!
I'm also nervous about the result, but there's nothing to do but wait... so, we might as well try to forget about it until the scores come out. do you know when the scores should be released?

email notification is not worhwhile.if u want to take a date.stay on page which shows date for a week for 5-6 hrs daily....keep refreshing the page...u will get an earlier date...

Yes. Sometimes the openings come up but you don't get email alerts. I don't know why. You just have to keep checking the calender. I didn't get my permit till 6/13. First I scheduled my exam in early Dec and then kept moving it earlier. I finally got a date on 7/1. It was unbelievable. Almost thought that I couldn't make to the Match this year.

Do not give up, had frds do CS late like Nov , so keep checking open spot on CS site & grap it asap , do not knwo how , CS passed memebers will know detail , better , as previous posts said , but still apply then , who knows might get the early CS day , so study CS , st 3 then go for CS as soon a sspot open .
Call ECFMG re that too, will tell u how to garp the spot, also it is , should post in CS official site .
