Will take for 3rd time
I did this in the Past
Kaplan books ( did not feel they helped a lot)
FA
then took 1st one completely not prepared and I knew it
Then I used
SOme Kaplan and FA and Gojan path
NBME ( 350) and studied the downloads for NBME took the tests several times at 65 to 70% pass still I did not pass the second time
SO here I am with a schedule
My weakest according to the report was Immuno and Biochem ( Biochem sucked at my school too LOL)
Path was very strong
some weak in Pharm ( I knew this)
So this is my plan:
2 weeks left this month all Gojan biochem and path with doing q's in small sets on UW Like sets of 25 to get some practice
then next month immuno again and pharm kill these maybe review biochem some still but not heavy like these two weeks UW q's ( I have till Middle of Oct)
then the following months kill over view everything else and take the NBME see if I get better then 400
if not postpone the real thing one more month for more review.
take another NBME ( I want to use these as a true guide of my abilities this time I have never taken 5 or 6 so they are virgin to me)
so right now I'm looking at late October, is this doable? should I do Nov instead?
I'm planning on signing up so Oct is the start and then Dec will be the end of the 3 months.
Is this good or just stupid?
I have little money
What I do have is
Gojan RR path both CD and copy of the 2006 book and the audio with notes
Gojan RR Biochem ( 2003 edition )
Kaplan books on PDF (2006) and the Kaplan videos ( I hated them) all 26 DVD's
FA 2006
FA q book
Pass material
UW access till middle Oct ( just bought it yesterday)
Plus some misc stuff but this is the bulk of my "War chest"

you need to not do the downloaded version of nbme firstly, only because it should represent how u take ur exam, which is not on paper, so until ur nbme's say within a passing range (i'd aim at least 430, but higher the better!) then dont take it.. and ur qbanks are the most important source to learn from, not how many sources u have or how many times u've done kaplan, maybe u need to see things dfferntly.. do goljan, but i mean if ur patho is strong and pharm is also strong, i was not that great at biochm, but unfortunatley kaplan i think has the most informative and thorough biochem with molecular chapters.. best of luck buddy, and take the online nbme's, any forms, but make sure u can go thru them and learn the conceptws behind them, not just the answers, b/c it's the same concepts tested in different ways over and over and over and over... good luck and be strong!

drfp,
i am in the same boat as you...i am taking it for the 3rd time as well and have studied the same materials in similar fashion. I have done UW - it is verrryyyy informative (you can learn lots from their questions!) so def do that. I wish you the best for your prep this time ...let's stay motivated and get in the 90s this time around!!

Thanks I think from what I have read and know that I should do the NBME 5 and 6 without taking breaks, treat it like the real test so I know how I'm doing, I think my biggest mistake was taking liberties with these.

The biggest mistake people make in preparing for the USMLE is not what they studied it is how they studied. You go through the forums and it seems everybody is studying the same materials and the results range from failing to 99's. The big difference is not what you studied but how you studied.
to DFRP: you've detailed what you will study, but you've not stated what you will do to make sure you remember what you've studied and be able to recall it for the examination. Read my advise to perseverance and evaluate your study methods based on my posts and see if you are doing anything wrong.

I allowed myslef to look answers up and not really strain myself for the answers till the real thing,
I think the brain is like a muscle and if you do not exercise it then it never gains.............
So I think this was my biggest problem? At least I hope so!
