@gauri u r welcome @ abhisikrey i just answered a similar question ... in my opinion u have to be brilliant to score high in step1 before graduation .. u can start reading step 1 books along with your regular course books right from the start .. robbins is a big text book you would still need a review book to prepare for USMLE ...

Hi Sunny I need another help from you.Actually I noted the names of the recommended books for USMLE step 1. But the list here in each subjects is quite long leaving me a little bit confused over which book(s) in each subject would be most helpful. Kindly please share with me the names of the books from which you prepared for the exam.I would be highly obliged if u post the names of the books. With Regards...

@dowjunk man ..i am not sure of what you meant ... if the lesion is in the nucleus it has to be ipsilateral ... LMN = ipsilateral ... only the medial fibers of optic nerve crosses over at chiasm.. and the optic nerve has complex lesions which i m sure you know !

MRS cd i will see if i can have my hands on it, thx dr123! ..... But believe me, if v damage trochlear nucleus the contralateral sup oblique will die off !!! weird.. ........thanks sunny

Congrats sunny. Its indeed a great pleasure to read your exam experience. may be one day i'll be writing a similar experience on this forum Inshallah, like you mentioned that you used to read others' experiences and they were quite motivating for you, the same holds true for me. I am currently a 4th year medical student in Pakistan, i wanted to ask if you did your house job after graduating or you skipped it and started the steps preparation straight away? i dont want to prolong my journey to the residency, so thinking of skipping the house job and moving towards steps immediately after i graduate and i heard many people doing this. i mean without house job. it really takes 1 year and its a tough time for house jobians and one cant manage to prepare so well for step 1 side by. thanks.

I am still enrolled in house job which isnt over yet but i am lucky in this aspect that i get my full time for study ... to leave housejob or not , it really is your personal decision i know people who have scored high both ways ... it certainly is easier if you are getting a lot of time while skipping housejob and staying home .. the decision is also influenced by your visa Status ... if you are a US citizen or green card then you can safely skip it ...

okay. thanks Actually, house job is REALLY a hectic thing at my institute,so most of the seniors start prep for step1 aftr this one year of house job. am neither green card nor US citizen, so i'll have to think a lot before skipping it i guess.

one more qs sunny bhai. did u gve kaplan simulator? wts ur opinion regarding it? i gave it today nd got 64% , im quite terrified by this result cz one of ma seniors who hs done step1 ( score 97) told me that there is a corelation b/w simulator score nd step1 score i,e step1 score = kap simulator score + 20 + 2 so acording to this formula my step1 score is falling b/w 82 - 86 which , u knw , is quite low hmmmmmmmmm.i also solved kaplan q book . questions of both ( kap simul;ator nd q book ) were quite WEIRD for me although im preparing since last year, doing no H/J , studying for avrg 10 hour pr day bt still could not perform well on simulator hmmmmmmmm. the style of the step1 qs is similar to the q book or kap simulator style??? my date is 24 sep nd sep is last month of my triad,im thinking to postpond ma triad hmmm wts ur sugesstion??????im alot depressed rit nw as im not doing H/J , depending totaly on step1. my score in kap q bank nd usmle q bank is b/w 68-70%. waiting for ur suggestions thks nd good luck again for ur step2

Sunni thnx so much for this post... My best friend and I have been thinking about dropping out from med-school for a semester to study for step 1... But lately we've been havin' our doubts and this kinda give us a clearer perspective on what to expect.... We finally decide a few days ago to rethink the idea and we called it quits.... I think it's for the best since the majority always waits 'til med-school is over to do it... Thanx again for the kind words... They gave me more hope 'cause I'm also in "a very average medical school" in a 3rd world country (Panama) but we work our asses off trying to go a little further always serching an explanation for everything... The best of lucks to you...

@malik i didnt do kaplan simulator ... I think u should take an NBME to see where you stand .. NBME gives you the best correlation with the real thing .. I m not an advocate of postponing exams because i had friends who postponed it and their scores never improved .. you get tired reading and it can harm your score ... @dr chewy U r welcome @abummeis Use goljan book for patho only ... goljan has written other books too but they are not used by many people ...I dont know much about them either ..
