For ethics you need very little knowledge and a lot of common sense. The knowledge you need you can find in the Behavioral Sciences books. Things like autonomy, beneficience etc. lf

I think the best book to read for step 3 is "Current medical diagnosis and treatment", edited by Lawrence M. Tierney, preferably 2004 edition, read it several times, it has everything, and then just play with the cases either from kaplan notes or usmleworld on-line, do the q-ns, read explanations - step3 q-bank, also Internal Medicine q- bank - another 1000 q-ns on line (Kaplan), if you want additional material - can read Swanson Family Practice book. I took exam yesterday and now I regret that I did not read this "Current medical diagnosis ..." book, so I felt very frustated, even though I read cases from kaplan and did q-ns for several months. There were a lot of cardiology, emergency medicine, neurology, dermathology q-ns with pictures. Also a lot of x-rays pictures, based on them you have to make a diagnosis, so it`s better to learn xrays a little bit more before exam. There was an xray of the baby, for example that looked like diaphragmatic hernia, but it was not one of the choices, the q-n was - what was the risk factor for this condition. Overall most of the patients on MCQs are elderly with comorbid conditions and a lot of different medications, also disadvantaged people, drug addicts, homeless, and so forth.
