Dear friends, please help to clarify this Illinois Program requirement : 7. Do you consider International Medical Graduates (IMGs)? Yes. IMGs must submit the following materials in addition to those listed above: License MBBS marks or other certifying exams Documentation of four weeks or 160 hours of psychiatry training Please note: We cannot accept applicants who do not have documentation of psychiatry training and/or who require an H-1 visa for training. Regarding the License: Is it after step 3 or are the CME credits after graduation? What in the world is MBBS for IMGs. My Psychiatry training was for a semester as a medical student and it is given in my transcript. Do they need more documentation? I already sent an e-mail to the PC (no answer yet) but i was wondering if any of you guys have any idea about this. Thanks a lot.

MBBS marks just means your medical school transcript. Your Psych training hours should be mentioned in your med school transcript or MSPE. Most of us IMGs only have 2 wks of psych training as opposed to the prefered 4 wks that is required. It shouldn't be a problem though.

4 weeks of Psych training is a requirement by Illinois state for licensing. If you cannot provide 4 weeks, you will not get the license. The programs are asking for this in advance because they want to avoid interviewing and matching you and later finding that you cannot get a license to practice... on their part, it is fair i think.

Thanks Moozy for clearing that up? Got a question though........I had only 2 wks of training in Psych while in med school. I did however do a 3 mth rotation exclusively in Psychiatry after graduation as part of my one year Internship. Will that count? Do you know?

No, a license is required to practice after you have signed a contract. The program where you match will give the required information. cartman; you can contact the state board to clarify that question.. I dont have insight into this. I dont work in Illinios.... some info is also available in this link. http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/apply/physli.asp

Thanks tikka, no problem in sharing. It is the requirement of The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago/Advocate Christ Medical Center Program. All the best in the Match season!

You're welcome. I am afraid that I don't know the answer of your question since Internal Medicine is the only specialty I am applying for..

Is it the requirement of all illinois programs? Any other states require this? I rotated in psychiatry for 2 weeks as an UG and then 2 more weeks as an internee [ 4th year] but I aren't sure. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I have no psych rotation at all.Does that mean I can't apply to any program in Illinois? I will be applying to IM and FP. Can I do the required rotation if I match in Illinois or any program just won't consider me for interview?

psych is a required rotation for third years here, as well as in most carribbean medical schools, so if you have graduated, and have no psychiatry rotations, i doubt it's possible to apply there, since it is part of licensing, which is why they are specifying it upfront.. if not sure, please email illinois medical board as they would probably have best answer.. best of luck!

Apply, and if you get interviewed and (hopefully) accepted, see what you have to do. You'll have at least from March to June to fulfill any requirement. Cross that bridge when and if you get there. Of course, if you have time, going to medscape.com and starting to collect some CMEs won't hurt you and will make you more knowledgeable (it helps for step 3 too). Personally, I think if it was a big deal, the programs (not only one) in IL would state these things as requirements for application in their websites. Good luck!
